Happy new year

Happy New Year to all our Creche supporters! It is amazing to look back and see the progress we made in 2008. I just read an article from the Harvard Business School about how slow most people are at adopting new innovations. They mentioned that it took 20 years for computer tools to catch on, ie the mouse, programs like PowerPoint and hyperlinks. New ideas travel through cultures at much slower rates that we realize,” says innovation expert Scott Berkun, “especially if the idea requires 1) throwing something away and replacing it with something else 2) re-learning skills or 3) co-ordination by large independent organizations.”

I think nutritional warming falls into the category of innovation and change in practice. I truly believe it will be a new standard of care in the upcoming years and I hope that milk labs are included in the new NICU design standards. In my opinion, milk labs are an optimal way to prepare feedings aseptically as mandated by the American Dietetic Association. So to all the early nutritional warming adopters - kudos to you for your willingness to change your practice. We look forward to working with the rest of you in 2009 to help make nutritional warming a standard of care in your NICU.

Cathy
