Magee Women’s Hospital in Pittsburgh

I had a great meeting with the team at Magee Women’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. They are starting a CQI project later this month to look at the effects of consistently warmed breastmilk for their NICU babies. They will be looking at gastric aspirates, weight gain, volume of feeding, abdominal distension, length of hospitalization and time to full oral feeding. The single room design of their unit is ideal for a study. They have four pods with 12 single rooms in each pod. Two of the pods will get their breastmilk warmed to body temperature for every feeding using the Penguin Nutritional Warmer and two will have their breastmilk warmed using their traditional warming methods (cup of warm water). I have enclosed some pictures of their beautiful unit!
